Recently we got the opportunity to learn more about Media Temple web hosting from Rahul Alim, owner of Custom Creatives. While Media Temple may not be as well-known as other website hosts, they are definitely worth looking into, especially if you have need of scalable features and reliable hosting for a commercial site. This is what Rahul had to say about them – and why he has used them for over five years.
While growing up, I thought I would become a famous soccer player but that was a longshot and it never happened. ☹
Before I started in sales and online marketing in 2002, I never imagined I’d be running a digital marketing agency and now it’s been over 12 years at Custom Creatives.
My goal is to grow this business to one of the top digital agencies offering website design, inbound marketing and graphic design services to resellers, partners, and direct customers. I don’t have an exit plan in site at this stage. I want my team to do great work, exceed expectations and improve the companies that hire us and take their revenues to new heights.
In my free time I love working with other entrepreneurs and hearing their impressive stories, as well as spending time with my family and close friends, watching sports and just flat out relaxing.
We use the GridPro shared hosting plan, which we chose due to its 2TB of scalable bandwidth. We have had it for about five-and-a-half years.
We started out with GoDaddy, which provided good service but our site loaded quite slow. We found that Media Temple offered more stable servers, better support and faster load speed so it made sense to extend our use of Media Temple to our own website.
I use the one-click WordPress installer regularly and it works great.
At times we will use an SSL from Media Temple unless the customer already has one with another provider. It’s the client’s choice to go forward with implementing an SSL on their site since it is an additional cost, although nominal ($75 per year). We recommend they always do.
Not on our website. But we have experienced downtime on our demo websites where we build out sites pre-launch. This has only happened once and as I am writing this answer. It’s been about two days now. They have had their support/tech team working to resolve the issue in an expedited manner, so they do take this issue quite seriously.
The interface – setting up users and databases is very quick and easy.
NOTE: Media Temple describes their proprietary control center as a “custom-built Grid Account Center panel … with a completely responsive design, streamlined contact management, and a re-imagined, modern File Manager.”
It’s always been good. Recently, a rep helped me set up a site preview feature so I could see my site before I pointed the domain over and I felt he went above and beyond my expectations.
In our experience until now, whenever we have an issue, we are able to receive answers quickly. They are very good at setting expectations effectively so we can resolve the issue without many unknowns.
Overall Media Temple is a reliable hosting partner. We like working with them and the less we have to interact with support the better the service is for us! So, no, there really aren’t any negatives I can think of. There will be issues from time to time with any web host; it’s all about how they handle those issues that makes the difference and Media Temple provides good support.
