Bluehost interview with

Jorden Roper from CutthroatCopy.com

Welcome, Jorden! Before we talk about your experience with Bluehost, tell us a little bit about yourself. What made you want to become a copywriter? And what do you like to do outside of work?

My love of writing started at a very early age. When I was in elementary school, I wrote lots of short stories and competed in tons of spelling bees, and English was always my favorite class.

In high school, I discovered my love of marketing. I was a part of a club that prepares emerging entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, and my team’s project won the state competition! We even got to go to the international competition.

So, naturally I became a copywriter a few years later because it combines my love of writing with my love of marketing. My business, Cutthroat Copy, focuses on B2B/IT content marketing, but I also work as a freelance writer/blogger for companies across a wide variety of other industries. My favorite topics to write about are probably marketing and entrepreneurship.

Other than that, I really like NBA basketball (go Mavs!), playing music (I sing and play keys in a band), and hanging out with my two Chihuahuas, which I get to do quite a bit since I work from home!

Working from home must be nice! Could you tell us a little bit about how you use Bluehost and which of their packages you chose?

I use Bluehost for the Cutthroat Copy website, and I have also used it for my band’s website in the past. I built both of these sites myself using WordPress, and I have been using Bluehost for them for over a year. I manage my website myself and don’t really need anything too fancy, so I use the Bluehost Starter package, and it meets my needs.

"I built both of these sites myself using WordPress, and I have been using Bluehost for them for over a year."

So, what made you pick Bluehost over other web hosting providers, and which of their features do you like the most?

I picked Bluehost because it was recommended to me by a web developer that I used to work with. He was right – Bluehost is awesome, and I like it so much that I doubt I’ll ever change web hosting providers.

I had used GoDaddy in the past because I had seen their commercials and knew someone else who used them, but I was never really a huge fan of their user interface. It wasn’t as user-friendly as I would have liked, and I didn’t like their customer service much either, so I knew it was time to switch.

I’m completely happy with my experience using Bluehost. My favorite features that they offer are their free domain names and the customer service that they provide online using chat. I built my own websites, but I’ll be the first to admit that I’m no web developer. Bluehost’s customer service representatives have helped me out many times by answering my WordPress-related questions. Without them, I would have had a much more difficult (and possibly expensive) time getting my websites up and running and maintaining them.

"…have helped me out many times by answering my WordPress-related questions."

Sounds like you’ve had a great experience with Bluehost overall! This might be tough, but can you tell me about something you wish they’d improve?

I can’t think of any negative experience I have had with Bluehost. Any time I have needed something, their customer support team has been there to help me resolve the problem quickly. My longest wait time has been about one minute, so I guess the only way they could improve is to always be available immediately! I know that’s probably unrealistic, but the point is that they do a great job.

One other thing I’d really like to see from Bluehost is a mobile phone app. I’m not always near my computer, so it’d be nice to be able to easily access my account and email from anywhere without having to pull up their site on my phone’s browser. I have noticed that a few other web hosting companies have apps, so hopefully Bluehost will create one in the near future.

Can you tell me about Bluehost’s security options? Do you feel safe with your data stored on their servers?

I feel safe with my data stored on the Bluehost servers because I have never had any issues with security using them in the past. I know that they back up all of my data daily at no extra cost, so that helps give me some peace of mind.

"…they back up all of my data daily at no extra cost…"

They also have other security options available, including Site Lock Find, which scans your site every day and alerts you if any malware/viruses are found, and Site Lock Fix, which scans and removes any malicious files or code found on your site. So, if you’re looking to take extra security measures, those are two good options.

It’s good that they have a few different options. Tell me, have you ever experienced downtime?

As far as I know, the Cutthroat Copy website has never been down, which is great because I rely on it heavily for lead generation. If I did experience downtime in the future, I’m confident that I could contact the Bluehost customer service team and they would try their best to help me however possible.

I’m pretty sure I know the answer to this question already, but I’ll ask it anyway. Would you recommend Bluehost to others?

I would definitely recommend Bluehost because they have a user-friendly interface, and their customer service team is willing to go above and beyond to help you get your website up and running. If you’re a solopreneur or freelancer like me, Bluehost is especially great because it’s affordable and their team will help you if you’re trying to build your own site in WordPress and have questions.

"I would definitely recommend Bluehost…"

Jorden, thanks so much for sharing your experience with Bluehost. What final advice would you give to people who are looking for a good web hosting company?

It’s really important to choose a user-friendly host that aligns with your specific needs. For example, a small personal website may benefit more from certain features than a major, high-traffic site would, and vice versa. Figure out what you would benefit most from, and look for those features.

Oh, and don’t always trust fancy advertising. Do your research, and make your decision based on that. Be sure to consider Bluehost if you want something that is both affordable and easy to use.
